Submissions invited on review of custody issues for young people

19 April 2011 - The Independent Police Conduct Authority is inviting submissions or feedback on issues affecting children or young people in Police custody.

The submissions will contribute to the Authority's work with the Office of the Children's Commissioner and the New Zealand Human Rights Commission.

The three independent agencies are carrying out a Joint Thematic Review (JTR) of Children and Young Persons’ Detention Issues.

The Review is being conducted as part of New Zealand’s obligations under the United Nations Optional Protocol to the Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (OPCAT).

Interested parties are encouraged to read the attached background document (JTR Call for Submissions) which identifies the issues being addressed by the JTR, and explains how the submissions will be used.

The Terms of Reference for the JTR are also available. More>>

The closing date for submissions is 20 May 2011.
