The Independent Police Conduct Authority confirmed today that it will not investigate Police actions in relation to the Napier incident.
The Authority was notified of the incident and was kept updated by Police throughout. While the Authority investigates incidents in which Police actions caused or appeared to have caused death or serious bodily harm, it was yesterday confirmed that Jan Molenaar was solely responsible for his own death and that he had no injuries caused by Police.
“There is no public interest to be served by an investigation by the Authority in this case,” said Authority Chair Justice Lowell Goddard.
