Youth steals Police car from Auckland Airport

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a notification from the Counties Manukau District. A high-risk youth offender being transported by Police, was left unattended in the marked police car.

The youth managed to steal this police car and flee from Auckland Airport despite being handcuffed to his front.

Police conducted an employment investigation which determined that the two officers had breached policy and good practice.

The officers' actions were addressed by Police in an employment context. The Authority agreed with the Police investigation conclusions and outcome.
