Police officer driving to incident in Waikato crashed into car and house

5 April 2019

An officer in the Waikato District had a charge of Careless Driving against her dismissed by the Court. She had been driving under lights and sirens to a priority job when she crashed into another vehicle and then crashed into a house. Neither vehicle was able to be repaired and the house required significant repairs.

The officer initially said she thought she was travelling at 70km/hr in a 50km/hr posted speed zone; however the data retrieved from the Police vehicle indicated she was travelling at 111km/hr. Following the outcome of the prosecution, Police completed an employment investigation, and the results of that were accepted by the Authority.
