Complaint about Behaviour of off Duty Officers at Golf Tournament

23 January 2023

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a complaint about the conduct of five off duty Police officers at a charity golf tournament in March 2018. Four of the officers were from Wellington Police District and the other was from National Operations.

The team of officers was caught taking drinks from a chilly bin without permission and stashing them in their golf bags, resulting in drunken behaviour. One officer made an inappropriate sexual remark to two women working at the event.

The investigation found that the complaint was upheld, and the officers involved were dealt with accordingly. The sexual remark made was deemed to amount to serious misconduct and that officer was sanctioned appropriately. Apologies were given to the complainant and the two women.

The Authority's review of the Police investigation agreed with the findings.
