Investigation into officer's knowledge of cannabis cultivation

29 April 2019

Police executed a search warrant at the property of a Constable in the Auckland Central District. The search located cannabis plants and growing equipment in a shed on the property. The shed was reported to be used exclusively by the Constable's son, who stated he lied to his parents about his activities inside the shed, and admitted the contents were entirely his own.

Police conducted both criminal and employment investigations looking at the Constable's knowledge of events. Police determined they could not prove on the balance of probabilities the Constable knowingly permitted his son to cultivate cannabis on the property or was wilfully blind as to this activity taking place. The Authority agreed with the Police investigation conclusions.
