Officer failed to declare a conflict of interest

29 April 2019

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation where it was alleged that a Constable in the Bay of Plenty wrote a letter in support of a respondent in a court case, despite the fact the Commissioner of Police was the applicant in the case (to have land forfeited to the Crown, pursuant to the Proceeds of Crime (Recovery ) Act 2009). The Police carried out an employment investigation which found the Constable demonstrated poor judgment and failed to declare a conflict of interest. The Authority agrees with the Police finding and the resultant action taken by them.
