Police officer in Wellington drove into fleeing driver

9 December 2019

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an incident where a Police Officer attempted to prevent a fleeing vehicle from exiting a public domain. The fleeing driver attempted to drive around the Police vehicle that had partially blocked the entranceway. The Officer drove forward to prevent that and struck the side of the fleeing vehicle, which then drove off.

Due to the very low level of the incident, Police decided against charging the officer and addressed the officer's conduct through an employment process which applied an appropriate outcome.
