Allegation of assault by an off-duty Police employee

18 December 2019

In February 2018, a complaint was received that an off-duty Police employee from Northland District was involved in a road rage incident which involved a physical altercation between the employee and a member of the public.

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation which established that no criminal charge should be laid against the Police employee. However, an employment investigation upheld the complaints of poor driving and unreasonable application of force and the matter was dealt with by a confidential employment process.

The Authority reviewed the Police investigations and agreed with both outcomes.
