Police employee made unauthorised checks on the Police national database

23 December 2019

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation where it was alleged a civilian staff member made unauthorised enquiries on the Police system on behalf of family members who had earlier been involved in a traffic incident. The Police employee allowed her family members to enter a restricted area of the Police station to view CCTV footage to try and identify the other vehicle involved in the traffic collision.

The investigation found the employee had a conflict of interest and should not have made enquiries on the Police system in respect of the traffic incident. The member of staff received a sanction and the Authority agreed with the Police findings and outcome.
