In October 2018, a Police officer in Northland used abusive language during a verbal exchange with a non-sworn colleague. While there was some dispute about the facts of the matter (including the allegation that the officer also threw a printer card at the woman), the officer immediately admitted that his overall actions and language were inappropriate, and all of those involved, including the victim, said that his behaviour had been out of character.
Police determined that there was insufficient evidence to charge the officer for assault. However, the officer's actions were appropriately addressed following an employment investigation.
The Authority agreed with Police's handling of the matter.
