Inappropriate contact by an officer

21 February 2019

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a complaint of inappropriate behaviour by an officer in Counties Manukau toward the victim of a family harm incident.

The officer had served the complainant's husband with a temporary protection order and subsequently visited her to discuss the family harm matter. He made inappropriate comments to the complainant during the visit and also called and texted her for two weeks afterwards with the aim of initiating a sexual relationship.

Police upheld the complaint and the Authority agreed with the outcome of the Police investigation. The officer resigned from Police.
