Unauthorised Use of Police Database

10 July 2019

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into the actions of an off-duty officer in the Wellington District who inappropriately accessed the Police database. He had found his parked vehicle was blocked in and used the Police database to obtain the details of the other vehicle's registered owner, so he could call the owner to get them to move their vehicle. Police carried out an employment investigation which established that the officer's actions had breached Police policy. He was dealt with through an employment process.
