Officer failed to recognise a conflict of interest

21 May, 2019

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation where it was alleged that a Police officer in the Wellington District obtained information from a family member about a criminal case he was in charge of. The officer did not correctly identify that there was a conflict of interest between him and the family member. Police carried out an employment investigation and it was found that the officer's action did amount to misconduct and he was dealt with through a confidential employment process. The Authority agreed with Police actions.
