A senior police officer chaired a local Governance Board. The Board became involved in a dispute with another local committee as to which of the two groups had the legal authority to issue a trespass notice under the Trespass Act 1980.
An allegation was made that the senior officer had a conflict of interest and used his influence to guide police actions in favour of the Board. The Authority referred the matter to Police to investigate, and oversaw that investigation. Police concluded that the officer did not influence police decision makers and managed the conflict of interest appropriately. The Authority completed an independent review of the Police investigation and agrees with the outcome.
