Police employee found guilty of careless driving and failing to stop after a traffic crash

11 November 2019

The Authority was notified of a complaint that a Police van was driven aggressively and crashed into the side of another vehicle. The crash caused damage to both vehicles. The Police employee driver failed to stop, failed to report the crash to Police and then carried out repair work on the Police van without authorisation.

Police commenced criminal and employment proceedings against the employee. They charged him with careless driving and failing to stop after a traffic crash. He was found guilty and the Court discharged him without conviction.

The employee retired from Police during the employment process. Police upheld the complaint and apologised to the victim. The Authority agrees with the Police findings and outcome.
