Officer presents Police identification during verbal dispute at a takeaway shop

12 November 2019

The Authority was notified of a complaint where a takeaway shop manager alleged that an off-duty officer presented his Police identification during a verbal dispute. The complaint alleged the officer entered the kitchen area of the shop and refused to move back into the public area when asked.

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation, during which the officer admitted he had behaved inappropriately and should not have presented his Police identification. The officer expressed remorse for his actions and Police apologised to the store manager.

The officer was dealt with through an employment process and the Authority agrees with the Police findings and outcome.
