A civilian Police staff member in Waikato District failed to disclose a Conflict of Interest

25 November 2019

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation where it was alleged that a civilian staff member made unauthorised enquiries on the Police system of a person who committed an offence against her. It was alleged she then unlawfully disclosed information about the person's history in public.

The investigation found no evidence she had disclosed the information as alleged and could not prove she used the Police system for any unauthorised purposes. It was found that she failed to disclose and manage the incident under Police's Conflict of Interest policy. The staff member's conduct was addressed through an employment process which applied an appropriate outcome.
