Allegations made against Police officer after off-duty family harm incident

16 October 21019

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a complaint which alleged that while off-duty in June 2018 a Police officer from Wellington District assaulted his partner during an argument and then drove away while intoxicated. The complainant also alleged that the officer used a Police vehicle to drive friends around, including one who may have had cannabis in her possession.

Police found insufficient evidence to charge the officer with assault in relation to the incident, or to support any of the other allegations. No further action was taken, and the complaint was not upheld.

The Authority's final review of the Police investigation agreed with the finding and the outcome.
