Officer in Canterbury involved in pursuit of a stolen vehicle

16 October 2019

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a police pursuit of a stolen vehicle. Consideration was given to whether the officer breached the Fleeing Driver policy in commencing the pursuit and then continuing after the vehicle appeared to have blown a tyre. The pursuit ended when the fleeing vehicle crashed into another (uninvolved) vehicle. The investigation found the officer was justified in commencing and continuing the pursuit. The officer gave appropriate consideration to the risks involved in the pursuit. The Authority agreed with the outcome of the Police investigation.
