Unauthorised Use of Police Database

16 October 2019

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into the actions of an officer in Counties Manukau who inappropriately accessed the Police database for personal purposes. He queried vehicle registration details for vehicles he was buying and selling, and queried associates and their home addresses. Police carried out an employment investigation which found the officer's actions had breached Police policy. The officer acknowledged he was wrong to access the Police database for these reasons, and his behaviour and actions were not in line with the values of New Zealand Police. Near the conclusion of the employment investigation, the officer resigned from New Zealand Police.

The Authority agreed with the outcome of the Police investigation.
