Inappropriate use of the Police database

29 October 2019

An internal audit conducted by Police identified some irregularities with checks made on the Police National Intelligence Application (NIA) database, by a Hamilton based Police employee. NIA is a confidential source of information to be used and accessed only to meet policing objectives. Police notified the Authority of the concerns and continued with its investigation. Police concluded that between 2018 and 2019, while off duty and without justification, the employee accessed NIA on numerous occasions. During the employment investigation the employee resigned from Police.
