Officer crashes into a car on a roundabout

5 November 2020

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an allegation an officer had breached policy in that while urgent duty driving to an incident, he turned off his sirens (red and blue flashing lights still on), entered a roundabout at speed and crashed into another vehicle on his left.

The investigation found there was insufficient evidence to charge the officer with careless driving but agreed he had breached Police policy. This was dealt with through an employment process which applied an appropriate outcome.

The Authority agrees with the outcome and the actions taken.
