Off-duty officer investigated for possession of a controlled drug

7 December 2020

The Authority oversaw an investigation involving a complaint about an officer allegedly using a controlled drug whilst off-duty in Canterbury.

Video footage showed the officer in possession of what appeared to be a white powder. A criminal investigation was undertaken but Police were unable to prove the substance in the video was a controlled drug and a criminal prosecution was unable to proceed.

The officer is no longer employed by NZ Police. The Authority agrees with the action taken by Police.
