Allegation of assault by an off duty Police Officer

13 January 2020

The Authority was notified of a complaint in December 2017 alleging an assault by an off-duty officer in a public place in Central District. The complaint alleged the officer punched the complainant to the head and face following a verbal altercation.

Police conducted a full investigation into the matter. The officer did not dispute the assault had occurred and was charged with common assault. The officer was discharged without conviction by the Court.

The officer was also dealt with through an employment process which resulted in an outcome the Authority considered appropriate.
