Officer behaved inappropriately towards colleague during a social gathering

13 January 2020

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation where it was alleged an off-duty officer behaved in a sexually inappropriate manner towards a colleague during a social gathering. The officer touched his colleague's buttock and later exposed his own genitals. Other Police staff witnessed the officer's actions and described his behaviour as drunken and generally inappropriate. Over the next two days, the officer repeatedly phoned and text his colleague and some of these communications were demanding and insulting.

Police found that the officer's behaviour breached their code of conduct. The officer resigned during the employment investigation. The Authority agreed with the Police findings and outcome.
