Bay of Plenty Police Officer investigated concerning allegations of corruption

30 June 2020

In November 2017 Police advised the Authority it had commenced a criminal investigation into allegations that a Police Officer was assisting in the import of contraband to prisoners via the Rotorua Custody hub and the Rotorua District Court cells. It was also alleged the officer had supplied confidential information to people outside of Police, against Police policy.

The Authority referred the matter to Police for investigation under the Authority's oversight.

A criminal investigation was conducted however there was insufficient evidence to substantiate criminal charges. This was followed by an employment investigation that found the allegations proved on the balance of probabilities.

The officer no longer works for Police.

The Authority has reviewed the Police investigation and agrees with the findings and outcome.
