Police officer from Central District acted with conflict of interest

21 July 2020

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation where it was alleged an officer intervened in a residential parking dispute on behalf of a friend. The officer accessed information from Police systems to ascertain details of the owner of a car parked on his friend's street, and got in touch with that person, on behalf of his friend. They did so with the agreement of their supervisor.

Police found the officer had a conflict of interest and should have directed his friend to report their concerns about residential parking to the local council. The investigation also found the officer's supervisor failed to identify and manage this conflict of interest.

The Authority agreed with the Police investigation findings and the employment outcomes for both officers.
