Allegation of excessive force in Counties Manukau

The Authority oversaw an investigation into an allegation of excessive force by a police officer in Counties Manukau. The complainant alleged excessive and unreasonable force had been used during his arrest for failing to surrender his keys following a vehicle stop. The police investigation found that excessive force had been used by the officer who stopped the vehicle. The matter was dealt with through an employment process which resulted in an outcome that the Authority considered appropriate. The complainant also received an apology.
