Off-duty officer involved himself in an investigation in Auckland

15 June 2020

The Authority oversaw an investigation into an officer who involved himself in a police investigation while off duty and was alleged to have disclosed private information about a suspect to a member of the public. The officer approached a police vehicle while attending officers were in the process of an arrest and made enquiries.

The police investigation found no evidence that the off-duty officer had disclosed private information and that the officer involving himself in the investigation did not, in the circumstances, breach their Code of Conduct. The Authority agreed with the outcome of the Police investigation.
