A Review was undertaken by Police following the escape of a prisoner from hospital. The prisoner had been transported to Hospital by an authorised officer and constable to receive treatment for a wrist injury. The prisoner escaped when the Police officer had cause to leave the authorised officer alone with the prisoner. The prisoner only had one handcuff on due his wrist being treated.
The Review found that the prisoner should have been secured to an immovable object and two staff should have been present throughout. These issues have been addressed directly with the staff involved. The Authority agrees with the findings of the review and the action taken.
