The Authority oversaw an investigation into the pursuit of a motorcycle that had failed to stop. After a short pursuit, the motorcycle crashed, and the rider sustained a minor injury. The police investigation found the pursuit could have been abandoned when the registration number was obtained, and consideration should have been given to whether the seriousness of the offence and the necessity of immediate apprehension outweighed the risk of pursuing.
These issues were addressed directly with the officers involved in the pursuit. The Authority agrees with the findings and outcome of the police investigation.
