Police recruit investigated for inappropriate conduct towards female recruits

19 October 2020

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into allegations that a male recruit at the Police college engaged in inappropriate sexual behaviour towards female recruits.

Police carried out an employment investigation and found the recruit's behaviour breached the Police Code of Conduct. During the employment process, the recruit resigned from New Zealand Police.

This investigation has provided Police with the opportunity to improve how they train new recruits about Police culture and values. Police have taken positive steps to enhance its induction programme to emphasise behavioural expectations and professional distance.

The Authority agreed with the outcome of the Police investigation.
