Police investigated a complaint that an officer in the Auckland City District presented a firearm during a vehicle stop which resulted in the vehicle being seized. The investigation found that the officer had not pointed the weapon at the driver, but his conduct around unholstering his firearm was addressed through an employment process which applied the appropriate outcome.
The other aspect of the complaint was that Police did not return the vehicle to the driver, but instead gave it to a third party. The Authority notes the vehicle was returned to the registered owner, so any dispute over this is a civil matter.
