Off Duty officer uses inappropriate language

16 September 2021

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation of an off-duty officer's behaviour at an incident on Great Barrier Island. The off-duty officer and friends became involved in an argument with some people on the beach.

The criminal investigation found there was insufficient evidence to charge the off-duty officer with any offence, however, a friend of the officer was charged with assault.

An employment investigation found the off-duty officer's language and behaviour did not meet Police's expectations. This resulted in an appropriate employment outcome.

The Authority agrees with the Police findings and outcome
