The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a suspected theft of cash by a Police employee from a station in Waitematā.
A stolen car was taken back to the police station after it had crashed following a pursuit. A wallet containing $140 was photographed in the car during the initial examination by officers. That cash was missing when it was later examined.
While Police interviewed the staff who may have been responsible and reviewed CCTV footage, unfortunately they could not identify who took the cash. The Authority is satisfied Police made all the appropriate inquiries and agrees with their decision that they are unable to take further action.
Police did reinforce appropriate cash handling practices with all staff involved.
