Police officer in Bay of Plenty involved in family harm incidents

13 December 2021

Police notified the Authority of a complaint about family harm incidents against an officer. The complainant said the officer physically assaulted her in her home on two separate occasions.

The Authority referred the complaint to Police, to investigate whether the officer’s conduct met the threshold for criminal charges.

The Police investigation concluded that the officer’s actions did not meet the threshold for criminal charges but found they fell outside Police’s values and expectations as an organisation.

The Authority agrees with this finding.
