Officer in Auckland City accused of family violence

24 February 2021

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a complaint where it was alleged an officer assaulted his ex-partner and later sent her abusive text messages.

The Police investigation found there was insufficient evidence to charge the officer with assault. Police did find there was sufficient evidence to prove that the officer's text messages to the complainant amounted to a criminal offence of misuse of telephone but taking into account the reciprocal reaction of the ex-partner, decided there was insufficient public interest to warrant a prosecution.

Police dealt with the matter through an employment process and the Authority agreed with the outcome.
