The Authority oversaw a Police investigation where an on-duty Police officer crashed into a parked car and drove-off without stopping. The Police car was seen driving away by a member of the public. The officer later told Police that he noticed his car was damaged but claimed he did not know how the damage was sustained. The officer suggested it might have been damaged when he attended another job.
The owner of the damaged car reported the crash to Police and an investigation into the crash was undertaken. The investigation found that the officer's car was responsible for the crash. The officer was charged with careless use of a motor vehicle and plead guilty. He was convicted and a sentence was imposed by the Court.
Police also undertook an employment investigation into the conduct of the officer. He was invited to a disciplinary meeting but resigned before the meeting could take place.
The Authority is satisfied that Police dealt with the matter appropriately.
