Auckland Police officer exceeded the speed limit by 58km/h enroute to a serious crash incident

14 June 2021

The Authority was notified that an officer had activated a speed camera by travelling at 108km/h in a 50km/h posted speed zone. The officer was responding to a serious crash and was travelling with his emergency lights and siren activated.

Police waived the infringement notice as they determined the officer was justified in driving urgently to the crash scene.

The Authority notes the officer has been spoken to about his decision making, as the speed was very high in a residential area and he placed himself and other road users at risk.
