Rotorua Police Officer resigns after court conviction

29 June 2021

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a Police officer's conduct regarding an associate's community work obligations, for which the officer was a sponsor.

The Police investigation found that the officer was in breach of the law and the Police Code of Conduct. The investigation led to the prosecution and conviction of the officer in the Rotorua District Court for conspiracy to defeat the course of justice and forgery. The officer submitted false community work records to benefit the associate and forged his signature on two forms. The officer was sentenced to home detention.

Police were unable to conduct an employment investigation as the officer resigned after being convicted. The Authority agrees with the Police findings and outcome.
