Police officer allegedly sexually violated the complainant before joining the Police

30 June 2021

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a complaint where it was alleged that a Police officer sexually violated the complainant in 2013. Police conducted a criminal investigation and sought a legal opinion. Given the absence of evidence other than the statements of the two parties, and the time that had passed since the incident, the Police concluded that there were insufficient grounds to prosecute. Police also determined that employment proceedings were not open to them, since the officer did not join the Police until more than five years after the incident.
