The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a complaint about an Authorised Officer's treatment of a prisoner within the Wellington District Custody Unit in December 2019.
The Authorised Officer handcuffed the prisoner as they were moved to another part of the custody unit and kept the prisoner handcuffed for a period. The Police investigation determined that the Authorised Officer's actions breached the Police Code of Conduct. Subsequently, the Authorised Officer received an employment sanction from Police.
The Authority is satisfied with how the Police conducted their investigation and the outcomes they reached.
