The Authority oversaw an investigation of a complaint that Police failed to provide appropriate care for the complainant while in Auckland Custody Unit. It was alleged that Police did not respond to the complainant when using the call button inside the custody cell and failed to provide any medical care before she was released from custody.
An employment investigation found that officers did not appropriately react to the complainant's use of the call button, however, medical assistance was offered but declined. The investigation highlighted the need for training in recording decision-making and refresher training in tactical communications.
