Auckland officer's explanation of actions prior to crash investigated

20 September 2021

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an officer's account of his driving before a serious crash on the Queen Street over-bridge in Auckland in May 2021.

After reviewing Eagle and CCTV footage of the incident, Police were concerned about apparent discrepancies between what the footage showed happened and the officer's record of his actions. Police spoke to the officer and accepted his explanations but reminded him of the obligations of officers engaged in fleeing driver incidents.

The Authority agreed with the outcome of the investigation.
