Allegation of inappropriate relationship with family harm victim

11 April 2022

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an allegation that a Police officer in the Bay of Plenty inappropriately ‘matched’ on a dating site with a woman he had previously dealt with as a family harm victim.

Police found that although the officer did ‘match’ with the woman online, he did not initially know her identity and when he realised who she was, he quickly terminated contact with her.

Police took action to deal with the officer’s actions and the Authority agrees with the findings and outcome.
