Auckland Sergeant accused of inappropriate use of the Police database

11 April 2022

A person complained to Police about a Sergeant checking her details on the national Police database without good reason. The complainant alleged there was a conflict of interest between this Sergeant and another Police staff member, whom she had previously been in a relationship with.

The Authority oversaw the employment investigation. The Sergeant explained the reasons for the checks, which Police accepted were not appropriate, but had not been done maliciously. Police took appropriate steps to address this complaint with the Sergeant, and the Authority accepts no further action can be taken.
