Officer inappropriately accessed Police records in Counties/Manukau District

1 August 2022

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an officer’s misuse of Police records after she accessed and provided information to a family member. After accessing the information, the officer realised the checks were not work-related and reported her actions.

Police conducted an audit and determined the officer had looked at records relating to her family member on three occasions. The staff member accessed this information on her family member’s behalf, in breach of the Police Code of Conduct. Police took appropriate employment action against the officer.

The Authority agrees with the outcome of the Police investigation.
