Officer accesses Police database for improper purpose

31 August 2022

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a complaint that officers had used a Police database to view the complainant’s information, and that of his partner, without a proper purpose.

After evaluating system access logs, Police established that one officer had viewed the complainant’s information and associated records. The officer was found to have had a legitimate reason to view the complainant’s information but had breached Police policy by searching for other information.

Police reached an employment outcome which the Authority agrees with.
