Police employee investigated for disclosing personal information to a colleague

1 February 2022

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a complaint about a Police employee who viewed personal information about a colleague’s family member on a Police software application and disclosed this information to her colleague.

Police conducted an employment investigation and found that while the employee disclosed the information for genuine welfare concerns, she breached the family member’s confidentiality and Police policy on acceptable use of information. The complaint was therefore upheld and the employee received an employment sanction from Police.

The Authority is satisfied with the Police investigation and the outcomes they reached.
